MEET "SIG"
Robert Lee “Coach Sig” Signater, Sr. is a dedicated lifelong educator and Louisiana National Guard veteran who has invested over three decades into the students and families of East Baton Rouge Parish. A graduate of Belaire High School and Southern University—where he earned a B.A. in Political Science and a Master’s in Educational Leadership—Coach Sig spent 25 years as a celebrated teacher and coach, securing six District Championships and six Coach of the Year titles before transitioning into administration.
His leadership continued as Assistant Principal at McKinley and Glen Oaks, and finally as Principal of Glen Oaks Magnet High School from 2020 to 2024. Beyond the classroom, his commitment to service is reflected in his eight-year military tenure, his role as a Deacon at Little Zion Baptist Church, and his brotherhood with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. A devoted husband and father of five who enjoys bringing people together through his love of cooking, Coach Sig understands that success in our district requires a foundation of supported educators, secure learning environments, and rigorous accountability. He is now ready to leverage this extensive expertise to ensure every school in the parish thrives through proven, hands-on leadership.
PROVEN LEADERSHIP
During his tenure as principal of Glen Oaks High School, Robert Signater led the school to a 5.8-point increase in its School Performance Score (SPS). This significant gain reflects stronger student achievement, academic growth, graduation outcomes, and preparation for college and careers. Signater also became the first principal in East Baton Rouge Parish to have 25 high school students earn associate degrees by the time they graduated—an historic accomplishment demonstrating his commitment to expanding opportunity and preparing students for success beyond high school.
